Weyt-kp Happy New Year buds! 2024 was pretty action-packed with festivals and awards, and it wrapped up the release cycle for ‘Unconditional Love In Hi-Fi’ – our 2023 full album released by our buds over at Mint Records. The first single from that album ‘Dig Me Out’ dropped way back in April 2022 so we have been living this record for a real long time and it’s been so much fun to share those songs from radio to streaming to live all over the world.
‘Unconditional Love’ also earned us some sick awards and nominations! We won our first Western Canadian Music Award as Breakout Artist of the Year, and another YYC Music Award for Single of the Year for ‘So Mad.’ We were also nominated for Rock Artist and Music Video of the Year at the WCMAs, and Indigenous Artist, Group, and Rock Recording of the Year at the YYCMAs. It’s always an unreal feeling to be acknowledged beside your peers for your hard work. Kukstemc thank you so much!
Last year we stayed pretty close to home for live shows – with the exception of a really amazing trip to Guadalajara to perform at FIMPRO for the Canadian showcase. Besides being in Mexico in February, we also got to hear Steve Albini and Patti Smith speak! This was a huge highlight for us in 2024. We played some amazing festivals too – Winterruption (in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, and Edmonton!), FIMPRO, International Indigenous Music Summit, Spring Reverb, Sled Island, Run As One, 2 Rivers Remix Folk On The Rocks, and Breakout West, and we had some fun tour runs with Thunder Queens and Dump Babes <3
We had music featured in some very cool TV shows too – Acting Good (CTV), My Dead Mom (Crave), and Family Law (Global). I also got to travel to St. Laurent in Manitoba to film something very special with APTN that I assume will be out in 2025!
Beyond that we’ve been writing and recording and getting ready for our next release which I can’t say a whole lot about except that she sounds real big and we are real stoked. Hope you’ve enjoyed our 2024 round-up! Stay tuned for big news!
